Watch Bree Runway’s video for ‘ATM’ Feat. Missy Elliott

The high-energy track appears on the rising British artist’s new mixtape, ‘2000AND4EVA.’

Rising London rapper Bree Runway has released an eye-catching visual for her bouncy single “ATM” featuring Missy Elliott. The infectious track appears on the eclectic rapper, singer, and songwriter’s debut mixtape, 2000AND4EVA.

The video vibrates with energy combining Bree’s trademark swagger with playful choreography and features a big screen cameo from the legend herself, Missy Elliott.

It’s 1950s meets 2000AND4EVA, a celebration of women, black beauty, and luxury living, the final frame a homage to the iconic Grace Jones. The video is directed by Argentinian director, Lucretia Taormina with further creative direction from Bree.

In a recent interview with Complex, Runway spoke about how her collaboration with the legendary rapper and producer came together. “My A&R called. It was late, so in my head it had to be an emergency and you damn right it was! He said, ‘Missy Elliott wants to do a record with you.’ I was like, ‘With WHO???’”

She continued, “ ‘ATM’ was always one of those songs that felt incomplete to me, but the lightbulb moment hit us and Missy was definitely the missing piece of the puzzle. With fingers crossed, we sent it over to her hoping she’d like it and she did. When I got her verse back, tears were literally streaming down my face. I kept saying, ‘OMG! Missy thee legend, the icon! I almost dropped my laptop. I was shook! [Laughs] She just means so much to me; her work is still as iconic as it was when I was a kid, and that’s timeless – that’s that icon sh_t. I hope I have that same kind of impact in the years to come.”

Last month, Runway was among the BBC Sound of 2021 longlist nominees, alongside such artists as Greentea Peng, The Lathums, and Pa Salieu. The coveted list has previously included such stars as Lewis Capaldi, Yungblud, Adele, and Billie Eilish.

The genre-defying artist has also been added to the MTV Push 2021 Shortlist, Amazon Music’s Ones To Watch 2021, and DIY ’s Class of 2021, while she snagged a Video of the Year nomination at last year’s MOBO Awards for the Will Hopper-directed “Apesh_t” visual.

2000AND4EVA – which offers a playful tribute to the 2000s – includes the singles “Gucci,” “Little Nokia,” and “Damn Daniel” and features such guest artists as Yung Baby Tate, Maliibu Miitch, and Rico Nasty, in addition to Elliott. Since its release in November, the mixtape has received strong acclaim from critics on both sides of the Atlantic.

Praising Runway’s “fearless versatility,” the NME noted that “the Hackney-raised Bree has always been outspoken on issues surrounding misogynoir, but by its nature alone 2000AND4EVA is a radical move as a pop project that unapologetically centers Black womanhood.”

DIY declared, “Bree might be inspired by icons of yesteryear, but her sights are firmly set on being the Queen of 2021.”
