PSG vs Istanbul Basaksehir game halted after fourth official accused of calling player Negro(video)

Istanbul Basaksehir assistant manager Pierre Webo was sent off after 14 minutes after words were exchanged with the fourth official, and a heated debate continued on the sidelines at the Parc des Princes.

Play has been suspended for around an hour in PSG’s Champions League clash against Istanbul Basaksehir after an alleged racist remark.

A fiery debate was held on the touchline around 15 minutes into the game when tensions spilled over on the touchline at the Parc des Princes.

The Istanbul Basaksehir players left the pitch after around 22 minutes as refereeing officials, club officials, coaching staff and players discussed what they believed had happened.

Basaksehir assistant manager Pierre Webo was sent off after 14 minutes after words were exchanged with fourth official Sebastian Coltescu from Romania.

It is hoped that play will resume with a replacement fourth official, though Istanbul are yet to confirm if they will take to the pitch again.

A statement from UEFA read: “Following alleged incident involving 4th official match was temporarily suspended. After consultation with both teams was agreed match would restart with different 4th official. UEFA will thoroughly investigate matter and further communication made in due course.”

Istanbul are believed to be willing to resume the match if the fourth official is no longer involved in the game.

However, it is thought that he would be replaced by a VAR official, meaning he would have to form part of the video team as per UEFA rules that there must be two officials in that position.

Footage appeared to show Webo angrily asking why Coltescu used the word ‘negru’, which is Romanian for black.

Former Chelsea striker Demba Ba led his team-mates down the touchline after several minutes of discussion.

Substitute striker Ba was heard saying to an official: “You never this say ‘this white guy’, you say ‘this guy’, so why when you mention… listen to me… so why when you mention a black guy [do] you have to say ‘this black guy’?”

While PSG defender Presnel Kimpembe was picked up saying as the Istanbul players headed off: “WHAT? WHAT? Is he serious?

“We are heading in. That is it, we are heading in.”

Istanbul tweeted “NO TO RACISM” just minutes after the encounter.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand said on BT Sport: “I think we’re at a disturbing tipping point.

“We had Millwall, then the PSG game today, all in the same week

“Not a week goes by without an incident involving race and we are at a point where something needs to be done.

“The powers that be need to make a huge stand.

“That is a step in the right direction (walking off), that is unity, but it cannot just be left to the players to do something about this.”
