Nipsey Hussle‘s philanthropic efforts will forever be “a part of United States history.”

California Representative Karen Bass pledged to include the late rapper’s contributions to South Los Angeles in official Congressional Record Wednesday (April 3), three days after Nipsey was fatally shot. “I will be heading to the House Floor next week to formally enter Nipsey Hussle’s contributions to South Los Angeles into the Congressional Record where it will be a part of United States history forever,” she wrote on Twitter.

In a separate interview with ABC News, the congresswoman spoke to Nipsey’s character, detailing how he greatly invested in his community. “Nipsey was a proponent of community development at the real estate and intellectual level,” Congresswoman Bass shared. “In real estate, he was all about empowerment, specifically when it came to the economic opportunity in South LA — being a part of the opportunity by becoming a real estate owner himself and immediately using the stores he opened as opportunities for employment for the community.”

As fans know, Nipsey, who was was gunned down while aiding an old friend who had just been released from prison on Sunday (April 1), believed in the betterment of his neighborhood and fought for it. In addition to working to prevent gang violence, he recently helped launch Vector 90 — a Crenshaw district based STEM learning center and workspace dedicated to developing science and technology education in the area, TMZ reports. Ironically, the philanthropist was scheduled to meet with the Los Angeles Police Department to discuss ways to end gang violence in South Los Angeles the day after he was murdered.

Nipsey’s charitable work didn’t end there. In addition to his fight to educate and protect the citizens of South LA, he also owned multiple businesses — including his clothing store, which was in the Hyde Park strip mall that he owned —throughout the area and hired those that lived in the neighborhood to work for him. Not to mention, he was also reportedly in talks to build affordable housing in Crenshaw.
