There is a message circling social media purporting to be from the Twitter account of former heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis. The message for all intense purposes posted on April 29 looks real claiming that the English born boxer is taking this opportunity officially come out as homosexual.
Lewis who competed from 1989 to 2003, is a three-time world heavyweight champion, a two-time lineal champion, and remains the last heavyweight to hold the undisputed title. Holding dual British and Canadian citizenship, has been plagued with rumors about sexuality throughout his career.
Famously in 2001 Lewis, the Jamaican-born Briton lost his title to Rahman and took umbrage at disparaging remarks Rahman made because Lewis went to court to force a rematch after unexpectedly losing their first meeting in South Africa.
Lewis challenged him as the pair sat side-by-side in the studios of the cable television sports network ESPN in Disneyland, California.
“Why did you say I was gay?” Lewis demanded. “I’m not gay.”
“I said you were acting gay, taking it to court,” Rahman replied.
Lewis, who denied rumors earlier in his career that he was homosexual, looked affronted. He insisted: “Listen, I’m 100 percent women’s man. If you’re worried about that, bring your sister by.”
